About AIIMS Bhopal

All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Bhopal is an autonomous tertiary healthcare institute, established in 2012 by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Govt. of India. AIIMS Bhopal is a comprehensive multi-speciality tertiary care hospital which caters a large number of patients from Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh. AIIMS Bhopal has therapeutic and advance diagnostic facilities, at par with national level hospitals. AIIMS Bhopal is a National Institute of importance for teaching and research at UG, PG and Doctoral/Post Doctoral level in all disciplines of Medical Sciences. The institute has world class facilities for translational and clinical research. These include Central Instrumentation Facility, Central Animal Facility, Multi-disciplinary Research Unit, Centre of Excellence for Rare Diseases, Department of Translational Medicine, Regional Virology Lab, 3-D Printer, Bio-incubation and advanced niche of Innovation in Healthcare (BANI Health). The institute has been ranked as top 16th (and 2nd among new AIIMS) among all the medical institute of the country.

The Department of Biochemistry was established in July 2012. Over the years, the Department has excelled in the frontiers of Diagnostic services, medical education and research. We provide over 120 tests round the clock with a footfall of 1000 samples per day catering to 44 departments of the Institute. Our faculty have raised over 10 crores of research funding for translation research on nanotechnology, cancer biology, virology, autoimmunity, diabetes, kidney diseases,  neuromuscular disorders, mitochondrial diseases, and blood disorders from extramural funding agencies in collaboration with clinical departments of AIIMS Bhopal and with other Institutes namely IISc Bangalore, IISER Bhopal, IIT Indore, IIT Jodhpur, ACTREC, SGPGI Lucknow, MSU Baroda, MANIT Bhopal, KIIT Bhubaneswar and others. The faculty, students, research fellows, research scientists of the Department have been awarded numerous awards and fellowships from Royal Society UK, Royal Society of Biology, London; Indian Academy of Biomedical Sciences, Society of Life Sciences, Venus awards, FAIMER, Biochemistry Society along with publications and patents for high impact research work. The Department foster leadership skills, networking and laboratory training by regularly organizing conferences and workshops utilizing the state of art infrastructure for molecular biology, cell biology and equipment for clinical biochemistry and research. The excellence is medical education imparted by the department honed with newer teaching-learning methods along funded student research projects for the undergraduate and postgraduate medical and nursing students have helped our students to find suitable job and leadership opportunities in academia, industry and administration. The Department aims to utilize the experience and funding to focus on high impact translational research by developing low cost and rapid diagnostic tests for the Indian population and impart high standard research based medical education to the undergraduates and the postgraduates.
